If you use it, how do you find it?

Sound quality is alright, but can often be very "tinny" and have digitally clicks and screeches in it. But it's not bad, especially since it is free. Ties up the internet though as most ISP only give 128kb for upstream and this isn't enough to talk and surf at the same time.

That's a fair point. I suppose those on synchronous connections wouldn't have that to worry about.

I'm using Skype most days both on my PDA thanks to a neighbour with wireless broadband, and on my pc with eircom. Prices are very good. I can spend over an hour to a landline number for 30 odd cent. I'm using a usb style phone (Maplins it's the nokia looking one). I have recomended to loads of friends and they are all happy (after a few small problems).

I use a lot for calling southern hemipher from my rip wave to other broadband users but not land lines yet

A bit echo eee from my voice and a tad radio one way comms over and out stuff but so far too lazy to try another option like VOIP busters what another friend prefers to use and dont want to spend the €5 euros to ste it up and my friends already got 4 people sharing the same €5 euro set up and only one can use it at a time so more not welcome to share

Find it works well for me.With daughter in Poland 2cent@min is a lot better than 30cent @min to Eircom. Even on local calls a saving. Best of all on calls that keep you waiting for many mins while playing Green Sleeves. Government Dept's seem to keep you waiting for ever! I am using the basic package from UTV & usual speed is 1.72/.195 most of the time John

I use skpe quite a bit and it is fine most of the time but when your calling long distance you can have problems with connections so i normally hang up and dial again in a few mins and its fine

Then Ofcourse there is this new skype alternative its called

VOIPBuster
they are providing a free service for land lines in a lot of countries i think its a limited time offer.

to sign up you will have to deposite 10 euro first though

www.internetcalls.com is a new site from the owners of voipstunt, voipbuster etc. now you don't have to buy any credit to get started (as long as you are calling the free destinations) Excellent call quality, I was on the blower to my brother in Wales last night 45mins for free and sound quality was every bit as good as PSTN.

There is no time limit on calls that I know of, as I said I was on a call last night for 45mins.

No cutoff date has been stated, I can imagine that they are using the free calls as a marketing gimmic to promote the company, (and doing a good job of it at that!) so they probably will end at some point in the future, but until then I'll be using them...

I've been doing a little more research on this and have found that Voipbuster (a sister site to internetcalls.com) has changed the number of free destinations a number of times, going up and down and up again! Doesn't seem to follow any logical pattern. So, for how long free calls will last to your favorite destination is anyones guess!

Another point to note is that all these sites have a "fair use" policy within their terms and conditions. Whilst they don't state what is considered unfair use, they can and apparantly do cut off service or charge for excessive calls to free destinations!

Again whilst not stated anywhere that I could find it appears that maximum call length is one hour, although you can reconnect immediately.

I use Skype with Eircom's 64kbps, and usually it's very good.
I just installed Vodaphone's broadband service, but have yet to try it with Skype. Must do that and report back.
I use a Logitech handset which gives you freedom of movement.
