i changed from the zyxel router i got with bt to netopia wireless router, everything was working fine after managing how to work out the setup, but now my computer wirleless whatever ya call it cant find my wireless network, it just dissapeared although when i got to the settings it says it connected hmmmm strange i given up and gone back to my ethernet cable any ideas whats up ??
That is kinda weird alright. I was trynna setup my brothers BT broadband with the Zyxtel router in his house a few days ago and did it upstairs with a laptop. The main computer was downstairs (with wireless) and it couldnt find it. Then when I plugged it in directly with ethernet to the downstairs computer, and went into the setup (ie. going to 192.168.1.1 or something in a browser) it's been able to find it wirelessly since.
Maybe it has to be "paired" with it first or something - like the router keeps a record of "friendly" computers (ie ones it's met already)?
So maybe BT has them setup so the signal is hidden until paired?
Thats just my take on it.
thanks yea stiil no luck, i have the Zyxtel router , but it not a wirless one just ethernet, but i got a netopia wirless router , worked fine my laptop just wont find it anymore reinstalled, system restore , try everything,

Can ur laptop connect via ethernet cable to the Netopia?
Can anyone elses laptop connect wirelessly to Netopia?
If so the prob might be with your laptop's settings.
(Sorry cant be any more help. I'm a Macuser so I'm used to things "just working". )
hehe.... yea maybe i should get a mac then
yea it does work with ethernet cable, i using a dell inpiron 510m, think i might just give it a clean sweep and reinstall op/system, start from scratch
thanks again
I'm not sure you need to go to that extent. Probably just some of your settings arent configured correctly. I'd say just to lookup documentation that came with your laptop on wireless networking, test it in a free wifi zone eg, starbucks, some hotel lobbys, etc to see if its working there and if still not working at home lookup the netopia manual.
But if you feel you need to do a clean install to get rid of other bugs go ahead and see if that helps but personally I think its just incorrect settings.
Best of luck.
Has a similiar but different issue setting up netopia router for sister's broadband. Basically the wireless was enabled, but settings on box was set to manual. I set for automatic WEP security, and to hid the SID on the network. It gave me the encription key, whoich I configured 2 laptops for. Everything worked fine for couple of hours, but the DSL link kept dropping, only recourse was to restart the router. This kept happening ever few hours, even with just the desktop pc phyiscally plugged into the router and no laptops active, the whole line would drop. Went like this for 2 - 3 days. As they were not happy with the connection dropping at random, I undid the wep and hid ssid, and teh dsl link has not dropped since.
Found strange, this was 2 weeks ago and they have been using the desktop cabled to the router every day no problem, so have to go back at some stage to investigate more.
Anyone any ideas on this would be great, will be a week or two before I can make any changes on it as she lives in a different county.

Make sure you have enabled the wireless connection on your Netopia and that you are useine the correct encryption key when setting up your wireless network.
