Default Wi-fi cutting on and off

Hi i've a canyon wirlesss router connected to my digiweb metro lite 1mb, modem. Initally when i set the wireless up without any passwords it was working ok, but then yesterday when i set a password for the wireless am having all sorts of problems with it, there are about 4 other wireless in my area and i can see them, my connection name is Default is there a way i can change this name ? also why would my connection keep cutting on and off this happens every few seconds.. and then i could not get a connection at all ....

Well first off, you need to know the routers address usualy 192.168.x.x depending on make, and then you can goto the wireless security section and change the default to somthing of your choosing. Next as far as your cutting in and out, any EM(electro-magnetic) field can cause this such as a hands free phone/microwave etc... If none of these are present you may have neighbors who can cause interference. I know of a eircom customer who says that when a residential street light was installed he could not get a wireless signal lol.

i have a similar problem with a wireless connection down stairs, keeps disconecting for a few seconds, makes online gaming impossible.
